On the 18th of October we went to the Genesis cinema to watch Sherlock Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes

The film was based on the books by the author sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

the film was directed by Guy Ritchie, Joel Silver and Lionel Wigram. the film was produced by Susan Downey, Dan Lin and Michael Robert Johnson.
the stars of the film were Robert Downey, Jr, Jude Law, Rachel MacAdames and Mark Strong.

the film was distributed by Warner Bros, Pictures.

release dates = December 24, 2009
                           December 25, 2009
In UK and USA the film was released on the 26 December, 2009

The film budget was $90 million however the film grossed over $523,029,864

• advertising companies use marketing because it creates visibility and also raises awareness which engages interest from the audience.
• word of mouth -  all advertising companies relay on word of mouth which means people talking about the film to other people like friends or family members

Distribution

• distribution is the main part of the film making industry because without distribution there would be no film in the cinemas.
• the distributor's work is to bring films in the market
• Producer/company acquires rights to film a story or treatment
• below is the way a film company makes there film and how they distribute films across the nation

Screenplay is developed 

Production finance and cast and crew are confirme

Principal photography takes place, in studios and/or on agreed locations, followed
by some months of post-production, editing and scoring

Master print of finished film is delivered to local distributor

Distributor determines release strategy and release date

Distributor presents the film to exhibitors and negotiates bilateral agreements
to have the film shown in cinemas

• film 4 works with channel 4 , E4, More 4 , 4Music, Kiss , Magic
• film 4 is a digital televsion chanel in the UK and Republic Of Ireland
• film 4 is owned and operated by channel 4
• the first film that film 4 showed was What's Eating Gilbert Grape
• May 2009 the boradcasting for film 4 entended to 11am tolate afternoon 4pm  
• Flim 4 also made Moives and one the blockbuster was Slumdog Millionaire

• Warner Bros haedquarters are in Burbank, California United States
• Barry Meyer , Alan F. Horn and Edward A. Romano own the Warner Bros Company
• it mostly prouduces motion pictures and televsion programs
• Warner Bros was found by four brothers form Poland in 1905 
• In 1925 to 1935 the Warner Bros added sound , colour and style to the moives they made 
• 1930 Warner Bros produced cartoons famous cartoon charactoers are Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck 
• the Warner Bros have there own tevelsion studio and channel as well as having muisc records studio
